This is a great example of how Prime Minister Modiji has built relationships around the world. Justice Dalvir Bhandari has been elected as the Chief Justice of the International Court of Justice. Justice Dalvir Singh of India got 183 votes out of 193 votes (one from each country represented) and defeated Justice Christopher Greenwood of Great Britain. He broke 71 years of British rule in the post. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Foreign Ministry have been working for the last 6 months to achieve this! It was a difficult task to reach out to the representatives of 193 countries and explain to them India's position on how easily a British candidate could win. In an 11-round vote, Justice Dalvir Bhandari received 183 votes out of 193 in the General Assembly and 15 out of 15 members of the UN Security Council. Justice Dalvir Bhandari will remain in office for 9 years.
