ভারতে তথাকথিত ইসলাম ধর্মীয় কটূক্তি নিয়ে বাগেরহাটের চিতলমারীতে তর্ক-বিতর্কের জেরে এক সংখ্যালঘু হিন্দু পরিবারের বাড়িতে হামলা, ভাঙচুর ও অগ্নিসংযোগের ঘটনা ঘটেছে। গতকাল রবিবার দুপুর ২টার দিকে মিছিল নিয়ে বিক্ষুব্ধ মুসলিমদল চিংগরি গ্রামের একটি বাড়িতে ওই হামলা চালায়। তখন বাড়ির লোকজন পালিয়ে অন্যত্র আশ্রয় নেয়।

হামলাকারীরা কুনিয়া এলাকার সড়কে আগুন জ্বেলে অবরোধ করে। খবর পেয়ে পুলিশ গিয়ে ওই সংখ্যালঘু হিন্দু পরিবারের এক যুবককে আটক করে পরিস্থিতি শান্ত করে। আটক ওই যুবক (৩৩) পাশের একটি এলাকায় সেলুন চালান। এলাকায় অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ মোতায়েন করা হয়েছে। বাগেরহাটের পুলিশ সুপার কে এম আরিফুল হক ঘটনাস্থল পরিদর্শন করেছেন।

পুলিশ সুপার কে এম আরিফুল হক জানান, এক সপ্তাহ আগে স্থানীয় বাজারের একটি চায়ের দোকানে ভারতে তথাকথিত ধর্মীয় কটূক্তির বিষয়ে ওই যুবকের সঙ্গে কয়েকজনের(মুসলিম) কথা-কাটাকাটি হয়। এক পর্যায়ে তাঁরা তর্ক-বিতর্কে জড়িয়ে পড়েন।

পুলিশ সুপার আরো জানান, ভারতের ওই বিষয়ের প্রতিবাদে রবিবার গোপালগঞ্জে মানববন্ধন করে মুসল্লিরা। চিতলমারী থেকে বেশ কিছু মুসলমান সাম্প্রদায়িক বিক্ষোপ মিছিলে অংশ নেয়। সেখান থেকে ফেরার পথে কিছু বিক্ষুব্ধ মুসল্লি ওই বাড়িতে হামলা চালায়। ওই বাড়ির পাশের বাড়ির এক ব্যক্তি জানানঃ শতাধিক লোকজন একযোগে এসে ওই বাড়িতে হামলা এবং ভাঙচুর চালায়। এক পর্যায়ে তারা ওই বাড়ির একাংশে আগুন ধরিয়ে দেয়। তখন ওই বাড়ির লোকজন কৌশলে পালিয়ে যায়। খবর পেয়ে প্রতিবেশীরা এসে আগুন নেভায়।

In India, the home of a minority Hindu family has been attacked, vandalized and set on fire in Chitalmari, Bagerhat, over alleged so-called Islamic insults. The mob attacked a house in Chingari village around 2pm on Sunday. Then the people of the house fled and took shelter elsewhere.

The assailants set fire to the road in Kunia area and blocked it. Upon receiving the news, the police went and arrested a young man from the minority Hindu family and calmed down the situation. The arrested youth (33) ran a saloon in a nearby area. Additional police have been deployed in the area. Bagerhat Superintendent of Police KM Ariful Haque visited the spot.

Superintendent of Police KM Ariful Haque said that a week ago, a group of (Muslims) had a quarrel with the young man over the so-called religious insults in a tea shop in the local market in India. At one point they got involved in an argument.

The Superintendent of Police further said that the worshipers staged a human chain in Gopalganj on Sunday in protest of the Indian issue. Several Muslims from Chitalmari took part in the communal protest procession. On the way back from there, some agitated worshipers attacked the house. A man in the house next to the house said that hundreds of people came at once and attacked and vandalized the house. At one point, they set fire to a part of the house. Then the people of that house managed to escape. Neighbors came to put out the fire.
