Narail's Mirzapur United Degree College has opened 35 days after the incident of teacher harassment. However, the principal did not go to the college, nor did any student attend. Even since the incident, the Acting Principal Swapan Kumar Biswas, the victim of harassment, has not returned home. This news is from related sources. On Sunday (July 24) 5-6 teachers left till 12:30 noon but later 10-12 more teachers attended the college.


Additional District Magistrate Zubair Hossain Chowdhury visited the college on the morning of the first day of its opening. At that time he was accompanied by Sadar Police Inspector (Operation) Sajedul Islam and local Mirzapur Police Camp in-charge SI Saiful. The Additional District Magistrate told reporters that the college has opened after a long closure. The college authorities have been asked to inform the students on phone. Hopefully students will return to college in a couple of days. Class XII will start first. Later, classes for 11th and degree level will start gradually.

A teacher, who did not want to be named, said that he got the news around 12 noon that the college was opening today and he had to go to the college. The teacher said, then we come to college. Meanwhile, the Acting Principal Swapan Kumar Biswas has not returned to his home since the incident of harassment. He thinks he may be staying at a relative's house. However, he also said that there are other family members in the principal's house.


Principal harassment case investigation officer and Sadar police station OC (on duty) Md. Mahamudur Rahman told reporters, Mirzapur in this incident Ripon Sheikh Ripu, a Class 11 student of Mirzapur College, son of Afzal Sheikh of the village, was arrested on Saturday (July 23) night. The video footage confirmed his involvement in burning the teachers' motorcycles. Ripon was not remanded as he is 16-and-a-half years old. However, a 3-day remand has been granted against Raihan, a class XII student of Mirzapur College who was arrested. This remand will be effective from Monday to Wednesday.

Judicial Magistrate Amatul Morsheda granted his remand after the hearing at Sadar Amli Court this afternoon. So far 8 people have been arrested in this incident. All the accused are in jail.


Meanwhile, Acting Principal Swapan Kumar Biswas will be on leave for a few days and then go to the college, said College Governing Council President Advocate Achin Chakraborty. Regarding the absence of others, he said, it was decided to open the college on Saturday night itself. As the decision was sudden, not everyone knew the news of the college opening yet, due to which students did not come to the college.

Incidentally, the crisis started with a controversial Facebook post given by a class XI student of Mirzapur United Degree College. When the students reported the matter to the acting principal of the college, Swapan Kumar Biswas, he tried to hand over the student to the police on the advice of everyone. In the meantime, locals including students got angry and burnt three motorcycles belonging to the teachers in the college premises. At one point, the police fired a few rounds of tear shells with baton charge to control the situation. At least 10 people were injured. On the day of the incident, on June 18, in the afternoon, Swapan Kumar Biswas, acting principal of the college and the student who had posted on Facebook, were assaulted with shoe necklaces in the presence of the police.
