150 Bhar gold stolen from a Hindu businessman's shop in Keraniganj
150 Bhari gold and two kg of silver jewelery were stolen from a jewelery company of a Hindu gold merchant in Keraniganj Upazila of Dhaka. On Monday (August 1) late at night, these jewels were stolen from the Kankan Jewellers, temple market of Kalatia Bazar of the upazila.
Kanai Chandra Mridha, owner of the shop, said that the value of the stolen jewelery was around Tk 1 crore 20 lakh.
Kanai Chandra Mridha said, "The gang of thieves entered the shop by cutting the netting of tin rice, a five thread rod and a three thread rod. They broke 12 locks of two chests and took about 150 loads of gold and two kg of silver. One lakh was also taken from the account with the ATM card in the shop. The money was withdrawn. Even with so much security in the shop, the theft could not be stopped."
He also said, "I have become destitute. From where will I return people's gold."
Kanai Chandra Mridha's younger brother Chantosh Chadra Mridha said, my brother closed the shop at 8 o'clock yesterday night and came home. The shopkeeper opened the shop in the morning and saw that everything including the ark was in disarray. Later he called my brother and informed. We go and see this situation. If there is such a theft in the market within half a kilometer of the Kalatia police outpost, where will people go?
In this regard, the officer in charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station OC Mamunur Rashid said that senior officers visited the scene after receiving the news. PBI, NSI officials are also investigating the incident separately. We have also collected some CCTV footage. I hope the thief will be caught.
