Theft and looting of 3 temples in Bhimashi, Srimangal
In Srimangal Upazila of Moulvibazar district, the locks of three temples were broken in one night, money was stolen from donation boxes and goods were looted. The incident took place in Bhimshi village of Bhunbir Union of the upazila on Wednesday (August 4) night.
After the incident of theft and looting in the temple came to notice on Thursday morning, there was a sensation in the area. There is a lot of panic and frustration among the temple authorities and the local Hindus.
According to local sources, these incidents of theft took place in the midnight of Thursday at Sri Sri Shamshan Kali Matar Mandir, Gandharbpur Sarvajanin Durga Mandir and North Bhimshi Mandir in Bhimshi village of Bhunvir Union. The miscreants broke the lock and entered the temple and stole various items used for worship, a donation box and two brass idols. After stealing and looting, they leave the donation boxes outside the temple.
Sripada Chakraborty Raju, President of Bhimshi Sarvajanin Sri Sri Shamshankali Mandir, said that we came to know about this theft while offering puja in the temple in the morning. We have filed a complaint at Srimangal police station in this incident.
While the identity of those involved in the theft and looting is yet to be identified, the victims fear that radical sectarian terrorists of a particular religion may be involved in the incident.
The police were informed about the incident but till the latest news, the police could not identify the culprits and arrest anyone.
Officer-in-charge of Srimangal police station Shamim or Rashid Talukder said, we have come to know about the theft. The police are trying to recover the goods and arrest the thieves.
